THE MOON
How It Came To Be
IT STARTED AS AN EXTRA-CREDIT ASSIGNMENT.
If a year ago you told me that I will receive a silver medal for this design I wouldn't have believe you. I came up with this idea in my junior year of high school and it was solely meant to be an extra-credit assignment to boost my grades up in Earth Science.

IT RECEIVED GREAT FEEDBACK.
I remember when I submitted this brochure, my teacher was so impressed she asked me if she could keep my work and use it as a sample for her future classes. She also took the time to show it in class and I was surprised to see it receive a lot of compliments.
IT WAS LEFTÂ UNTOUCHED FOR A WHOLE YEAR.
After I went home that day, I decided to put this design in a mock-up to make it more presentable and look professionally made. I posted it on my art account on Instagram and ever since then this project was left untouched in the depths of my computer folder.
THE SCHOLASTIC ART AND WRITING AWARDS.
Fast forward to senior year, I came across the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. When I was compiling works to submit, "The Moon" was the first piece that came to mind. I submitted a total of 9 works. 8 art pieces and a poem.

"THERE IS NO WAY I'M GETTING ANYTHING."
When I received an email from Scholastic about the regional winners I thought to myself "There is no way I'm getting anything." I ended up winning three awards that day. Two honorable mentions in Illustration and one Gold Key in the design category which happened to be my brochure "The Moon".

NATIONALS IS IMPOSSIBLE.
Winning a Gold Key is a ticket to win in nationals. So at this point, my only chance is "The Moon" brochure. There were nearly 320,000 pieces of work that were submitted and only 1% of those works receive a National Medal.
FROM EXTRA-CREDIT TO SILVER MEDAL.
They selected my work. I cannot believe I just won a silver medal for my design. Up to this day, it still feels surreal. I remember entering my art in this contest solely for the experience. I never expected to win anything. Sometimes life really just surprises you. This is definitely one for the books.
